Expected Results:

Support Appvion’s development of new products and the improvement of existing products.

Understand customer needs and translate those needs into functional barrier coated product designs
-
Design, evaluate, and validate new barrier coatings for sustainable packaging and new product developments
-
Lead lab, pilot, and production trials for new barrier coatings
Supporting Activities:
-
Investigate new material compatibility with existing materials and processes
-
Work with technology development professionals to assist in transition of new technology
platforms from the lab to product development scale up
-
Provide support to operations and engineering during new product scale up
-
Gather, compile, and report data, results, and conclusions to appropriate stakeholders.

Identify opportunities for product and process improvements
-
Provide technical support at customer sites for product validation trials
-
Deliver technical reports summarizing results with clear data analysis, conclusions, and recommendations
Required Prior Accomplishments, Experience, Skills:
-
BS or MS in chemical engineering, material science, paper science, and related fields or equivalent experience
-
2-4 years of experience in technology and new product development in the coatings, barriers, or materials industry
-
Strong understanding of chemistry, materials, and coatings to apply to packaging products and substrates
-
Ability to apply engineering and scientific principles to develop new products and resolve problems
-
6 Sigma Blackbelt including Design of Experiment and DMAIC methodologies a plus
-
Ability to interact effectively with scientists, engineers, customers, management team, marketing, and production personnel
-
Proven ability to work in a cross functional team environment
-
Business knowledge of cost/benefits analysis and project management
-
Strong understanding of laboratory, pilot, and manufacturing environments
-
Ability to facilitate and drive resolution of complex problems
