Based in Appleton WI, we are a technology-driven equipment manufacturer in the film converting and alternative energy markets. The increased demand for CMD’s products and services has resulted in the need for an Electro-Mechanical Service Technician, who’s role plays a pivotal part in the field installation and maintenance of CMD equipment, catering to both new and existing customers. Travel expectations are up to 50%.

What You Will Be Doing
This position entails serving as the face of CMD, ensuring customer satisfaction by overseeing meticulous equipment setup, providing operator and maintenance training, and responding to ongoing service needs. Additionally, the position involves conducting in-house assessments of completed machinery before shipping, conducting final inspections, and offering sales support when technical representation is essential. The geographical scope of responsibility extends worldwide. 

What Electro-Mechanical Service Technician’s Need for this Position

 Must Have:

  • Associate degree in Electro-Mechanical Technology or equivalent education, training or experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical systems and troubleshooting.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Familiarity with 24/7 manufacturing, preferably in plastics or paper.
  • Professional appearance and pleasant personality.
  • Ability to work under stress, think creatively, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Willingness to travel globally for extended periods (2-3 weeks).
  • Collaborative attitude with colleagues, customers, and vendors.
 
Essential Duties:
  • Oversees equipment installation and start-up in customer plants. Provides customer training to ensure ongoing production and satisfaction post-field technician departure. Conducts routine service trips to customer facilities as requested by the supervisor. Maintains comprehensive notes during service trips and disseminates trip reports to relevant stakeholders.
  • Travels worldwide to customer facilities for troubleshooting equipment issues. Applies analytical skills to identify causes of failures and malfunctions. Provides recommendations and implements corrective actions.
  • Conducts equipment check-out before shipping, ensuring machinery meets customers' specifications before leaving CMD.
  • When not traveling, provides technical phone support to CMD customers during corporate business hours.  Documents customer phone activity in CMD’s ERP system.  Follows up with customers to verify resolution of problems.  On a rotational basis, provides 24-hour technical assistance to customers, through after hours support function.
  • When not traveling, facilitates the sales effort when technical assistance is required, (e.g., in-house machinery demonstrations).  Assists with equipment operation at national and international trade shows.
  • Assists with R&D and other special projects as required.  Provides technical advice and assistance to other departments.
  • Must be proficient with equipment operation including programs, troubleshooting, maintenance, film processing and applications.
  • Responsible for mentoring less-experienced service technicians, as required, by the supervisor.
  • Visibly supports “lean” and other process improvement activities.  Participates in rapid improvement events.  Applies continuous improvement practices to one’s job.  Supports transition activities, as required.  Maintains an open mind throughout the change process.  Works with others to continuously fuel improvement throughout the Company.
  • Contributes to CMD’s core competencies of Market Intelligence and Product Development by gathering and reporting all relevant information including customer needs/wants/activities, and competitive information.
